Russian-Chinese expert seminar on science diplomacy in the Arctic under global challenges

On December 10-14, 2023 Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Arkhangelsk will host a Russian-Chinese expert seminar "SCIENCE DIPLOMACY IN THE ARCTIC UNDER GLOBAL CHALLENGES"

The key project idea is combining the intellectual efforts of universities in Russia and China to find new ways to develop international humanitarian and scientific-educational cooperation between Russia and China in the Arctic in the context of new geopolitical challenges.

The seminar unites Russian and Chinese experts in the field of international multi- and bilateral cooperation in the Arctic, researchers, officials and diplomats to share their ideas on the role of science diplomacy in the Arctic in the new conditions and take part in discussions of the possible scenarios of Russian-Chinese partnership within the following sections:

• Section 1: Science Diplomacy in the Context of Geopolitical Challenges;
• Section 2: Science Diplomacy in the Context of Transport and Logistics;
• Section 3: Science Diplomacy in the Context of Environmental and Climatic Risks.

As a result, the participants expect to develop and submit a document - a Joint Resolution on the further development of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (on the example of China), which determines the basis for expanding Russian-Chinese scientific cooperation in the Arctic, principles and possible mechanisms for cooperation, directions for further scientific collaboration of universities in Russia and China, including the prospects for the formation of educational programs, academic mobility, promotion of joint publications.

The seminar is held with funding support of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund within the priority action "Cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region".
